My Journey to Reiki

To Touch, To Heal
To touch, in order to heal: That seems to be my calling. I first answered this calling when I was in my 20’s as a deep tissue massage therapist.
My journey turned from healing others, to needing healing myself. While living in California, I was injured and told I would be a chronic pain sufferer for the rest of my life. Not the type of person who takes such news passively, I set out to change that prognosis— and my life.

FUSING TECHNIQUES AND MODALITIES
Exploring the healing arts in the San Francisco bay area, I came upon many practitioners who used a variety of modalities. Some combined different techniques in a single session, which worked well for me. I went on to learn many different techniques: Chi Nei Tsang, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Craniosacral Therapy then Reiki and EM. I have had great success combining these in various ways.
I developed an ability to read people’s healing needs. As I walked down the street, looking at the person in front of me, I thought, “Oh, look at the way his head sits on his shoulders. That is, one messed up C-2.” Or I’d see someone walking with an odd gait and think “that hip is out of alignment. She’s going to be in trouble if she doesn’t get that get that adjusted.”
I continued to work with a variety of techniques. Craniosacral Therapy, for example, worked well with clients as a diagnostic tool and healing modality. This gentle approach also had relaxing and rejuvenating effects on my clients.

LEARNING TO BE A CONDUIT
Having been an energy worker for years, I found Reiki to be almost too gentle to be useful and had difficulty just letting the energy flow. I had been working for years, pushing energy and directing it to help heal people. I had to learn that Reiki works without such direction. With Reiki, the practitioner doesn’t so much direct the energy, as become a conduit for the Reiki energy, and the energy flows through the healer, to the one healing. I had yet to relinquish control, to become a conduit through which energy could flow—to lose my own ego.
After my Reiki II attunement, the energy did flow better. I was beginning to trust both the gentle power of Reiki energy, and myself as its conduit. But I had still further to go on my journey before my belief in Reiki as a long-term healing agent would congeal.
Nadsa De Monteiro my first Reiki teacher believed in Reiki—and in me— and asked me to take a Leap of Faith. She encouraged me to go onto the Master/Teacher training, promising that once I got the Master Attunement, I would understand her excitement around Reiki.

INSIDE STONEHENGE—RECEIVING MY MASTER ATTUNEMENT
Four years later, in 2013, I came upon an amazing opportunity. Looking through The Reiki News Magazine, I spotted a notice about a Reiki Master/Teacher class, taught by Master/Teacher and founder of The International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) and of The Center for Reiki Research, William Rand. William would teach the class in Glastonbury, UK—with the attunement within the ancient and mysterious Stonehenge. The idea of receiving my Reiki Master Attunement inside the stones of Stonehenge compelled me to journey to England. I somehow knew that the energy immersion experienced during an attunement inside these sacred stones would be overwhelming. And in fact, it was life-changing.
Now I was in England, at the Medieval Abby at Glastonbury. I felt as if I had stepped back in time— or outside of time. The lore around the Abby was present, whether or not King Arthur and Guinevere were actually buried there. I was in a sacred place with powerful—almost supernal— energy.
William Rand, the Master/Teacher, turned out to be very down-to-earth. He simply loved practicing and teaching Reiki. I soon understood why his life mission was to bring Reiki to as many people as he could reach. (Go figure!) His gentle personality and teaching techniques, his perseverance and personal stories of how Reiki changed his life resonated with me. After all, I also had stayed the course toward Reiki for more than a quarter of a century!

TRUST AND TRANSFORMATION
The night of the attunement at Stonehenge was magical. The path up to the sacred stones felt familiar, though I had never been there before. Something powerful and transformative had begun to happen.
Me and the 23 other like-minded people walking that path together created a strong, palpable energy around us. During the attunement, the group rose to an even higher energy level. The energy comes down and envelops you. (The photos above, taken during the attunement, clearly reveal an energy vortex moving from a distance to where the attunement was taking place.) Each person in the group left those stones altered, and none would ever be the same.
I left England a few days later, knowing I had changed. Finally, I had assimilated the Reiki energy and learned to trust, rather than to direct it: Reiki knew where to go. I understood that now. I was ready to teach Reiki, to use Reiki, and to bring this amazing healing modality to others who would benefit from it.

KARUNA MASTER ATTUNEMENT—COMING INTO HOLY FIRE
One year later, in May of 2014, I found myself signed up for another class with Master/Teacher William Rand, again at Glastonbury. I would reach an even higher level of energy in this second class: Usui/Tibetan Reiki Ryoho Karuna Reiki.
Unbeknown to me, a new form of Reiki had unexpectedly revealed itself to William. It would ignite into a transformative and even more powerful Reiki energy, Holy Fire.
Holy Fire came quickly and unexpectedly into William Rand’s life; he was not seeking something so powerful and transformative. I knew that William followed what spirit directed him to do—and it directed him to bring down Holy Fire.
This time at Stonehenge, my doubts evaporated. The attunement left me wholly at peace, yet remarkably energized. Though profound and powerful, I discovered that this form of Reiki does not vanquish free will. Rather, as one relinquishes control over Reiki energy, one also gains free will to use it.
I had reached the summit of my journey. Me and the group of 26 like-minded souls emerged from Stonehenge imbued with a depth of inner peace that could come only from truly assimilating an ancient knowledge. The ICRT now teaches Holy Fire III Reiki, it is truly an amazing form of Reiki everyone should experience the healing properties of Holy Fire.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
In the 90’s I took my first Craniosacral Therapy class from the Upledger Institute in California, when I returned to Massachusetts, I continued learning a healing modality that was unique in its techniques for diagnosing and correcting dysfunctions along the spinal cord.
The craniosacral system, the membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord has a lot of influence over the body’s ability to function properly. Our bodies endure stress and strains that it must compensate for. Unfortunately, these changes often cause tissues to tighten and distort the craniosacral system. These distortions can cause tensions to form around the brain and spinal cord resulting in restrictions on the central nervous system, and potentially every other system that it interacts with.
Fortunately, these restrictions can be detected and corrected using a simple method of touch. Using the light touch of CST a practitioners uses her hands to evaluate the craniosacral system by gently feeling the cerebrospinal fluid pulsing around the brain and spinal cord. Then using soft touch techniques, they release the restrictions in any tissue influencing the craniosacral system.
By normalizing the area around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct, Craniosacral Therapy is able to alleviate a wide variety of dysfunctions.

FINDING EM
I started working on clients after my Master Attunement with William then started teaching soon after that. I tried using just Reiki on my clients but found that combining techniques worked best. I love the way Reiki and Craniosacral work together, the two seem to really compliment each other, both using Chi energy to direct the flow where it was needed most, it seemed the two together made the perfect healing vortex for many of the maladies presented to me.
But could I do more, I had a few adventurous clients who were Jin Shin Jyutsu and EM practitioners. They talked about Jin Shin and “EM” to me and told me I needed to try out “EM”, they thought I would love to channel “EM” energy. After much cajoling and talking about EM, I decided to try it, sometime after my EM 1 attunement I decide to try EM 2, then EM 3, after taking an EM 3 class from Ethan Borg I was hooked. His unconventional teaching methods and hours of videos to watch as he explained his adventures into creating an incredibly powerful new healing energy modality based on his training in classical Chinese medicine.
EM is a type of energy medicine that combines ancient Chinese systems, including acupuncture, Feng shui, with modern knowledge of physics and anatomy. EM allow practitioners to diagnose and treat people over long distances. Tapping into Universal QI for both diagnosing and treating both western diseases and balancing eastern flows.
Ethan is constantly refining EM, creating new techniques for diagnosing and healing, you can heal yourself and family using the techniques in EM 1 & 2, or get more involved and technical using EM 3, you can even create molecules to help heal yourself, family or clients.
And of course, I love using EM with both Reiki and Craniosacral it is the perfect storm of healing, using EM for both diagnosing and healing during and after a Reiki session.

SACRED RESONANCE HEALING
My journey has led to me to my own healing practice, SACRED RESONANCE HEALING. The sacred practices, symbols and guides imbued and experienced along the way resonate strongly within. Trust and free will blend into one powerful, healing energy, which I channel and transfer to others, and as always, my clients are free to accept or decline the guides that Reiki energy presents.
SACRED RESONANCE HEALING is growing, as more and more clients and students find me on their journeys. Reiki has infused my life—and theirs— with wonder, joy and happiness.
My journey continues. Perhaps yours will begin, or continue, join me.
